Crop Circles Project

The Crop Circles Project is a program that I am developing to help the everyday chef connect with local farms or vendors.  The goal is to educate cooks and bakers of all types, and all experiences to buy local, and therefore eat healthier.  Local food sourcing is important for numerous reasons, including supporting small businesses, and the community, but more importantly promotes consumer accountability.  In layman's terms: You know where your food comes from, what conditions it was grown or raised in, and how it was treated. Unfortunately the average consumer does know what hormones or antibiotics were pumped into the meats at the big box grocery store, even though it may be labelled "All Natural".  Nor do they understand what pesticides may have been used during the growth of their tomatoes, or even simply why strawberries are more expensive in the winter.  Eating and buying local and in season products benefits both your body as well as the community around you.  Eventually with the Crop Circles Project visitors will be able to type in a zip code or a town and find helpful links to local dairy, and produce farmers, and be able to connect with them and participate in a CSA, or locate the next farmers market event.  Boston will be the test group for this project once it launches and hopefully it will educate those who may stumble onto this site.  Updates will be provided as the program develops so if you are interested please subscribe to the RSS feed or follow on twitter.

Many Thanks,

TGB
